The 17th Marine Regiment was a UNSC Marine Corps infantry regiment that participated throughout the Human-Covenant War.[1]

[edit] Background
The 17th Marines were one of the many Army and Marine units deployed to New Mombasa, Kenya to provide security for the city in the wake of an impending Covenant assault. Specifically, elements of the regiment guarded ONI Alpha Site that was editing press releases about the war.
[edit] Battle of Mombasa
During the Battle of Mombasa, the Covenant Army attack split the regiment into small units scattered around the city. The remnants of the 17th Marines, along with armed civilians, engaged the Covenant in a holding action until relieved by elements from the UNSC In Amber Clad and later by a battalion of the 105th Shock Troops Division.

They were first mentioned and seen in the Halo Graphic Novel, and it is likely that some of the members of the 17th were in Halo 2 and later in Halo 3: ODST as well.
